British Paper £5 Note being replaced by Polymer £5 Note
The paper £5 note featuring the Elizabeth Fry portrait will no longer be legal tender from midnight on Friday night, 5th May 2017.
It is being replaced by the polymer £5 note featuring Sir Winston Churchill.
Shops may refuse to accept them from Saturday, although the banks should still exchange them.
Even after banks stop taking them, they can still be taken to the Bank of England in Threadneedle Street in the City of London, to be replaced.
The Bank of England has stated that about 150 million of the old paper £5 notes are still in circulation.
